About Kelly Jean

I’m Kelly Jean, a songwriter, performer, MC, and creative educator based in Sacramento.

I’ve always moved between different creative spaces. Music is a core part of what I do, but it isn’t the only way I connect with people. I write, I teach, I host, and I help shape experiences where people feel comfortable showing up as themselves, whether that’s on stage, in a workshop, or in a room full of strangers who end up feeling surprisingly connected.

You might have found your way here through my original music, through events with Sofar Sounds where I serve as an MC and am beginning to step into a local producer role, through something I’ve written, or because you’re interested in a workshop, collaboration, or booking me to host an event. This site is meant to hold all of those paths in one place.

As a songwriter, I’m drawn to honesty and storytelling. As an educator, I believe songwriting is a skill that can be learned rather than a talent you either have or don’t. My workshops are low pressure and process focused, designed to make writing feel accessible instead of intimidating. That same approach shows up in my writing and in the way I host events.

I also host karaoke under the name KJ, creating nights that feel welcoming, fun, and judgment free. Whether I’m MCing a Sofar show, leading a songwriting workshop, hosting karaoke, or sharing my own music, my goal is always the same: to create spaces where people feel safe to participate, even if they’re nervous or unsure.

This site is a home for the different facets of my work, including music, writing, workshops, hosting, and future projects that are still taking shape. If you’re here to listen, learn, read, book something, or simply get a sense of who I am and what I do, you’re in the right place.
